Roger Bartels
Bartels-Pagliaro Architects, founded in 1974 by Roger Bartels, now occupies a spacious loft overlooking the waterfront in historic South Norwalk, Connecticut. That’s appropriate: Most of Roger’s projects have been located on the shoreline, and their designs take full advantage of waterside life and views. Trained as both a civil engineer and an architect, he has used his studies of such masters of architecture as Andrea Palladio, C.F.A. Voysey, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and Stanford White to refine his own ideas of white space and spatial flow. His design talents are rooted in a truly New England tradition—the important American Shingle Style. (See his article on page 23, and view his projects at www.bartels-pagliaro.com.)
